Tips to keep our kitchen always tidy

One of the biggest problems that women face at home when they get up in the morning is finding dirty dishes from dinner or a counter full of food crumbs, this makes our stress level rise and we start the day in a bad mood. That is why it is important to acquire a series of habits that will make your life easier and that will prevent you from ending up giving yourself a hard time cleaning and tidying the kitchen during the weekend. Implement them little by little and you will see how the time you spend on cleaning and tidying is less and less.

1. If you use something, clean it and put it back right away

If you go into the kitchen to get a glass of water or a snack, instead of leaving it in the sink, put it in the dishwasher or wash it if you don’t have a dishwasher. This will keep the space tidy and clean between meals and you won’t have to clean up or scrub as much later. It will only take a couple of minutes.

2. While you’re cooking, take advantage of the time to pick up the dishes

What do you gain by looking at the pot while you’re making soup or heating a dish in the microwave? Take advantage of those extra minutes to pick up the dishes you have on the dish rack, for example. It’s not about picking up everything you see out of place, but by taking advantage of those dead minutes you’ll save some time at the end of the day.

3. Leave the kitchen tidy before you sit down to eat

Try to tidy up as much as possible before you sit down to eat or dine: washed pans and other utensils, clean countertops and leftover cooking in the trash. This way, when you finish each meal you will only have to pick up and wash the plates, glasses and cutlery you have used and it will be much easier to leave everything clean.

4. Clean your ceramic hob or gas stove when you finish cooking

Include cleaning your stove in your daily cleaning routine. Always do it when you finish cooking, if it is an induction stove, and wait a little for it to cool down if it is a traditional ceramic hob. The same if it is a gas stove. Wait for the burners to cool down to avoid burns. This way, you won’t have to bother removing the dirt later, as it will be dry and difficult.

5. Set aside a place for everything

The first thing you should do to ensure that your kitchen is always tidy is to set aside a place for everything. This way, not only will any member of the family find it immediately, but you will also automatically put it back when you are tidying up.

Think about the most convenient place. For example, glasses and plates are best placed near the dishwasher or the dish rack so that storing them is easy. Cooking oil and spices are near the stove. The tablecloth and napkins for everyday use are in a drawer near the office… Think about how you can best organise your kitchen.

6. Sweep the kitchen at the end of the day

To prevent dirt, or the feeling of dirt, from invading your kitchen, try sweeping it at the end of the day. This will remove any bread crumbs or other debris that may have fallen on the floor, also preventing them from spreading throughout the rest of the house. It is also not necessary to lift chairs and move things around: a quick wipe is enough to keep the kitchen cleaner and tidier.

7. Involve the whole family in cleaning your home

It’s not about you being the only one involved in tidying up and cleaning the kitchen. If each member of your family does their part, weekly cleaning won’t take so much time and effort. Give the little ones tasks that are appropriate for their age. Start by teaching them to set the table and clear their plates and put them in the dishwasher, so that little by little they get into the habit and help out more and more with household chores.
